Tanya V. Register
Mrs. Tanya V. Register, 46, of Oak Island died Tuesday, April 22, 2008.
She was born in Kingston, N.Y., on September 4, 1961. She was preceded in death by her father, John Proper Sr. Thinking of others, she was an organ donor. Mrs. Register was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, which she served as a chemical specialist.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley Register of the home; a son, Peter Proper of New York; a daughter, Amber Rae Williams of New York; parents Sharon and Dennis Holowecki of New York; grandmothers Florence Vaughn and Kathleen Proper of Kingston, N.Y.; a brother, Gerald Proper Jr. of New York; three grandchildren.

Louise Carver
Segars
Louise Carver Segars, 85, died at her home Thursday, April 24, 2008.
She was born September 28, 1922, in Fayetteville, in the Gray’s Creek community, to John and Mildred Carver. She was the oldest of three daughters. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Carl King Segars, and a sister, Mary Carver Jackson.
She was graduated from Gray’s Creek High School as valedictorian in 1939. On Christmas Day, 1941, she married Carl King Segars. Together they had three sons, Dr. Robert Carver Segars Sr. of Florence, S.C., Dr. Leon Carl Segars of Isle of Palms, S.C., and Ronald Edward Segars of Wilmington; and a very special granddaughter, Natasha Segars Tatum of Oak Island. Mrs. Segars made her home on Oak Island for over 37 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and always managed to put others’ needs before her own.
She is survived by a sister, Jessie Carver Davis; her three sons and eight grandchildren, Scott Segars, Rob Segars, Cathy Sullivan, Bobby Segars, Shawn Segars, Natasha Tatum, Mary Tefteller and Ron Segars; six great-grandchildren, Turner and Ella Segars, Lillian Tefteller, McKenna Sullivan, Makayla Tatum and Sadler Segars.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Ocean View United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington. Pallbearers were Scott Segars, Rob Segars, Ron Segars, Daryl Davis, Kenny Jackson and Brad Tefteller.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ocean View United Methodist Church Building Fund, 8400 East Oak Island Dr., Oak Island, NC 28465.

Bowen
A service celebrating the life of Jeffery Keith Bowen, 47, was held Saturday, with internment following at Northwood Cemetery.
He was born November 12, 1960, in Southport, son of James A. and Joyce C. Bowen. He grew to be a charming young man with a hearty smile that drew people to him. He had a good word for everyone and a boyish zest for life.
He was an all-around athlete who loved to swim and sail. He played baseball and was an all-conference football player at South Brunswick High School, and later in life enjoyed golf. At one time he played drums professionally in Wilmington and operated his own landscaping business.
He will be missed by his older sister, Dawn Worden and husband Neil, niece Tara Worden, nephew Trevor Worden; his younger sister Beverly Bey and husband Barry; and younger brother Rex Bowen; uncle Jimmy and aunt Margaret Champion.
Pallbearers were Ernie Champion, Neil Worden, Barry Bey, Craig Morrison, Kevin Jones Mickey Champion and David Champion. Honorary pallbearers were Trevor Worden and Stephen Wilson.

Kenneth Wesley
Worden
Kenneth Wesley Worden, 86, of Boiling Spring Lakes died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.
Mr. Worden was born in Greenwood, Wisc., on February 5, 1922, and was the son of the late Wesley and Neva Sinclair Worden. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He attended Cape Fear Alliance Church of Southport. He owned and operated the Cheese Haus Restaurant and Deli in Southport.
He is survived by two sons, David Worden of Shallotte and Kenneth James Worden of Boiling Spring Lakes; three daughters, Phyllis Bush of Algoma, Wisc., Pamela Turner of Southport and Sue Adams of Rainsville, Ala.; two brothers, Robert Worden of Greenwood, Wisc., and Warren Worden of Menominee, Mich.; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at Cape Fear Alliance Church with pastor John Chaffin officiating. Burial followed in Northwood Cemetery.

Whitmire
Tom Perry Whitmire, 90, of Supply died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Whitmire was born in Thornwood, W. Va., on March 10, 1918, and was the son of the late Clifton E. and Molly McCall Whitmire. He retired from RMI of Ashtabula, Ohio, after 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Gore Whitmire; his children, Tommy Whitmire and wife Salena of Supply, Delorise Robinson and husband Phillip of Supply, Polly VanSteen and husband Don of Supply, Dan Whitmire of Ohio, Jamie Whitmire of Supply, Molly King and husband Carlton of Supply, Holly Murchie and husband Kevin of Charlotte, Patty Hardee of Gastonia; two foster children, Mary Ayala and Jeanette Harrell; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Ocean View Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, Supply, with the Rev. John Chase officiating.

Phelps
Eunice E. Phelps, 81, of Supply died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Ocean Trail Nursing Center in Southport.
Born November 3, 1926, in Sampson County, the daughter of the late Carlton P. Horrell and Addie Belle Simmons Horrell, she was predeceased by a son, Terry Phelps; three brothers; two sisters.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Billy Phelps of the home; sons Carl Chestnut, Larry Chestnut and wife Martha, Billy Chestnut, Gary Chestnut and wife Donna, Glen Phelps and wife Amy, William Phelps Jr. and Wayne Phelps; daughter-in-law Theresa Phelps; sisters Evelyn Moore and Faye Thorton; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was conducted Monday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Hicks officiating. Burial followed in Silent Grove Cemetery.
